Do I need to keep pictures of my personal property?

Department:  Personal Insurance
Type:  FAQs

You are not required to keep pictures, videos, receipts, or a written inventory of your personal property. However, after a loss you will be asked to provide the claim adjuster with descriptions and replacement values of all damage or stolen property.  The task will be easier if you have some record of your belongings.  Most of us underestimate the amount of possessions we have collected over time.  We want you to receive full and fair settlement for your loss.  If you do decide to inventory or photograph your property, please keep your records in a secure offsite location such as a safety deposit box.  If electronic - we would be happy to also store in our scanning application - on a safe & secure (encrypted) server.
