How much insurance should I carry on my house?

Department:  Personal Insurance
Type:  FAQs

Our goal is to provide enough coverage to repair or replace your home to the same condition it was in right before your claim.  Your house, or dwelling, should be insured for its full replacement cost.  That is the amount needed to rebuild the structure, with material and workmanship of like kind and quality, without deduction for depreciation.  We use several tools to establish the replacement cost figure including specifically designed software programs and physical inspections.  The replacement cost is not the same as the market value, actual cash value (depreciated value), or tax assessed value of your home.
