Typical homeowner insurance policies do not exclude liability coverage for claims arising from the use of your swimming pool. During the underwriting process, carriers will want to make sure that your pool or yard meets all local codes concerning safety: fences, etc.. In addition, they may inquire about diving boards and water slides. Some carriers do not wish to insure pools with slides or diving boards while others will do so. Because the potential for injury is greater when you have a pool, we recommend that you carry substantial liability coverage for protection against lawsuits. You might wish to consider carrying excess liability (umbrella) coverage in the amount of $1 million or more. Please call your Account Manager with any questions about covering a house with a pool. |
