WTPhelan Collects Nearly 40 Pounds of Aluminum Can Pull Tabs for Shriners Hospitals for Children

Posted in WTPhelan Announcements

Between May 30 and August 1, our Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Lexington, and Watertown offices collected aluminum can pull tabs to support the Aleppo Shriners Pull Tab Collection Program.

The Wilmington, MA based Aleppo Shriners collect aluminum can tabs from individuals and groups throughout Eastern MA, and redeems the tabs at a recycling center to raise money for the Children’s Transportation Fund.

At the onset of the collection drive, our Commercial Lines Branch located in Arlington, MA proposed a contest – they would collect more can tabs than all 4 Personal Lines offices combined!  Never turning their back on a healthy competition, Personal Lines accepted the challenge.

The Commercial team engaged the help of family, friends, neighbors, cats, dogs and strangers to collect the can tabs throughout the summer, and shocked Personal Lines staff when they unveiled an impressive 28 pounds of tabs at the weigh-in on August 1st!

The Personal Lines team showed an admirable effort, collecting 10 pounds.

The Commercial Lines team was awarded for their contribution with a “box of applause,” a case of “Tab” cola, and of course, bragging rights.

While we love the excitement of a friendly competition, in the end, it’s all about the young patients of Shriners Hospitals -- the 38 pounds of aluminum collected by our entire WTPhelan team  (equaling approximately 52,000 pull tabs!!) will help pay for travel expenses to the hospital (including airplane travel and Med Flight!) Children up to 18 years old are eligible for help, regardless of financial need, race, religion, or relationship to a Shriner.
